Posted

Mariann passed away on November 22, 2019 in her Sun City West, AZ home at the side of her husband of 62 years, Roger Joseph Hutflesz.

She was born on June 4, 1932 in Buffalo, NY to Frederick and Helen Heidrich and was adopted at a young age by Adelaide and George Stewart.

She graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College and taught elementary school for two years in Clarence, NY. After her parents’ early passing and too many cold winters in snowy Buffalo, Mariann decided to move west to La Jolla, CA.

Three days after arriving in La Jolla, she met the love of her life, Roger Hutflesz. A year later, on June 14, 1958, they were married at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Carlsbad, CA.

Mariann has lived in Buffalo NY, La Jolla CA, Alexandria VA, National City CA, Carlsbad CA, Lompoc CA, Littleton CO, Encinitas, CA, Santa Cruz, CA before retiring to Sun City West, AZ.

As an only child, Mariann always wanted to have a large family to love. She is survived and adored by her 5 children, Lynne (Hutflesz) and Steve Clarence, Menlo Park, CA; Jan (Hutflesz) and Joe Hiti, Mill Valley, CA; Mark Hutflesz, Phoenix, AZ; Scott and Krissy Hutflesz, Santa Clara, CA and Kurt and Vikki Hutflesz, Highlands Ranch, CO. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren: Zachary and Austin Clarence, Carter and Kendall Hiti, Megan Hutflesz, Drew, Owen and Gracie Hutflesz and Ellie and Jack Hutflesz.

In addition to being the nucleus of her large family, she embraced what life brought her as a hospital switchboard operator, school teacher, pre-school director, artist, Girl Scout Leader, caterer, banker, microwave store owner, beauty consultant, RV camper, avid reader, community volunteer, crocheter of many baby blankets and scarfs, Sun City West Art Club President, traveler, member of Radiant Church and Diamonbacks fan.

She is adored by her large family and many friends and will be missed dearly. Mariann’s service will be on Friday, December 6th at 10:30 A.M. at Radiant Church, 15522 W. Paradise Ln., Surprise, AZ 85374 and will be buried as a veteran’s spouse at the National Veterans Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85024.
