JFCS features Sun Joo Lee on Aug. 6 virtual memory cafe

Posted

Jewish Family & Children’s Service will continue its virtual Memory Café program on ZOOM, 10-11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 6, featuring Sun Joo Lee who will lead an interactive music program.

The Memory Café is a meeting place, according to a press release, for those with changes in thinking or memory, mild cognitive impairment or dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder, along with their care partners.

The multi-talented Lee is the owner and clinical director of Sunshine Music Therapy, the release said, adding that she is a musical director of Shine on Your Light choir for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease as well as the Tremble Clefs, a chorus for those with Parkinson’s disease.

There is no cost to participants who will need a computer, tablet, laptop or phone to join in. JFCS will have volunteers available to assist attendees, particularly those who have not used Zoom.

“Perhaps a silver lining in our current situation is that having a virtual café will enable us to provide programming inside people’s homes.

We know it’s not always easy to get out even in ‘normal’ times when a family is living with dementia. We’re so happy to be able to bring this program to those who need it,” said JFCS’ Janet Rees in a prepared statement.

JFCS requests RSVPs by Monday, Aug. 3. Respond to kathy.rood@jfcaz.org to receive an invitation to join the Zoom Meeting by 9 am on Thursday, Aug. 6, the release noted, adding to indicate via e-mail if assistance is needed in learning about Zoom.

Additional support for the Memory Café comes from the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Phoenix and the Arizona Commission on the Arts.

A non-profit, non-sectarian organization, JFCS  strengthens the community by providing behavioral health, healthcare and social services to all ages, faiths and backgrounds.

JFCS’ goal, according to the release, is “for a future where families are strong, elders are cared for and children are safe.”
