The Eighth Annual Ignite Hope Candlelight Holiday Walk for Phoenix Children’s Hospital, raised a record $453,000 on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Ignite Hope expanded to a second Valley location this year and hosted two walks simultaneously, according to a press release on the event held at two locations, combining holiday spirit with remembrance, inspiration and a “promise to Ignite Hope for others.”

For the eighth year, Ignite Hope delivered on the promise of bringing holiday cheer to patients and families coping with illness and injuries, according to a press release, detailing the launch of Ignite Hope’s inaugural event in the West Valley.

The West Valley candlelight walk stopped at Phoenix Children’s Avondale Specialty and Urgent Care. In Phoenix, walkers stopped at the hospital’s main campus where patients observed festivities from the windows.

Between the two locations, more than 3,000 walkers gathered to show support, noted the release.

Many participants also engaged in fundraising efforts with proceeds from the event benefiting the Hope Fund, supporting the most pressing needs for technology, research, charitable care and more, the release said.

“I look forward to this event every year,” said Steve Schnall, senior vice president and chief development officer for Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation, in a prepared statement.

“The warm glow, the music, the people who bring smiles to support families when they need it most — it’s heartwarming. We’re grateful so many people continue to make Ignite Hope an annual tradition.”

Preludes to the walk at each location included festive holiday fun, including face painting and photos with Santa, detailed the release.

Walkers held battery-lit candles and were greeted by the CCV music team, which capped each event with familiar holiday favorites, the release said, adding that the night concluded with the ceremonial lighting of the holiday trees.
