Fitzgerald, local restaurants delivers meals to healthcare staff

Posted

Arizona Cardinals superstar wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald teams up with Steak 44, Ocean 44 and Dominick’s to deliver meals to frontline healthcare workers.

Meals will be delivered to three Valley hospitals and homes starting at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, according to a press release, noting that the following hospitals reiving the meals are HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center, Banner University Medical Center and Mayo Clinic.

Mr. Fitzgerald will also stop at the personal homes of several healthcare heroes. Approximately 100 meals, which consist of an entrée and side dish are a donation on behalf of Jeff and Mike Mastro, who own Ocean 44, Steak 44 and Dominick’s Steakhouse.

“We couldn’t be more appreciative of our healthcare workers who have been putting their own lives on the line and have worked relentlessly to save and care for the Valley’s patients.

We salute you and there is no better person we could think of to personally hand deliver these meals than our own Larry Fitzgerald. We know he will bring a smile to all of our healthcare workers on the front lines,” said Jeff Mastro, co-owner Steak 44, Ocean 44 and Dominick’s Steakhouse, in a prepared statement.

With most of the cafeterias closed in the hospitals, the release said a “warm meal of fine cuisine from Steak 44, Ocean 44 and Dominick’s Steakhouse will come at a good time for these healthcare workers.”

“These are our true heroes right now and we would not be here if it weren’t for all the courageous doctors, nurses and staff who are giving it their all to save lives every day,” said Larry Fitzgerald in a prepared statement.

“I’m just here to do my small part and hopefully bring out a smile and give all these amazing healthcare workers a moment to enjoy a warm meal from my favorite restaurants.”

Among the many healthcare heroes to personally receive the meals:;

  • Lauren Leander, an ICU RN at Banner University Medical Center who volunteered to work 12-hour shifts at the hospital’s Covid-19 unit;
  • Stacey Hansen, a Banner University Medical Center-Phoenix ICU RN, who displayed compassion and kindness to a dying patient and his son;
  • Steven Pilkington, PCU (progressive care unit) RN Banner Heart Hospital, who volunteered to assist another Banner hospital experiencing a high volume of Covid-19 patients.

In efforts to better protect the community, the release said the dining rooms at Ocean 44, Steak 44 and Dominick’s Steakhouse have remained closed since mid-March.

However, the restaurants continue to stay open from 12 to 9 p.m. daily for its white glove curbside service of the full menu, as well as the complete wine list, noted the release.
