Donations to UMOM on Giving Tuesday will be matched

For Giving Tuesday, a generous, anonymous Scottsdale donor has offered to match up to $30,000 in donations to the UMOM New Day Centers, which offers shelter, services, and housing for Arizona families, women, and youth experiencing homelessness.

Every gift given today, Dec. 1, will be matched and will have an increased impact, according to a press release about the worldwide event uniting neighbors and strengthening the community by helping those most in need.

To count toward UMOM’s $30,000 match goal, according to a press release on the organization that relies on the generosity of the community, donations must be made on Dec. 1 by participating in Giving Tuesday at https://umom.org/givingtuesday/.

With a focus on restoring hope and rebuilding lives, these gifts enable UMOM to provide emergency shelter and supportive services at no cost to clients to remove barriers that prevent successful employment and permanent housing, the release said.

“This year, our goal is to – with the help of our friends and donors – raise a total of $40,000 in just 24 hours,” said Jackson Fonder, CEO of the UMOM New Day Centers Fonder, in a prepared statement.

“We have tremendous faith that those who know us will help – they always do. But to hit our goal, we’re hoping our friends will introduce us to new friends!”

For those interested in an extra tax break: you can claim your donation as an Arizona Charitable Tax Credit for a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the amount you owe. Individuals may deduct up to $400; couples may claim up to $800.

Additionally, make your donation on Giving Tuesday – or to UMOM any time before April 15, 2021 – and “you’ll move your hard-earned money to the causes that are most important to you,” according to the release.
