The Grand Canyon Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, planted two Ironwood trees in honor of State Regent Morgan Elliott on June 24 at Mescal Park, 11015 N. 68th Place.
The city of Scottsdale’s Parks and Recreation Memorial Tree Program, managed by Sunny Nakagawa and Jody Pierce, thanked the chapter for recently donating trees to improve the beauty and quality of the city of Scottsdale Parks as well as honor Arizona State Regent Morgan Elliott, 2020-2022, according to a press release.
Chapter Regent Karen Andrews welcomed guests and Yvonne Henricks, chaplain, led the tree planting ceremony, the release said.
State Regent Elliott shared information on the Ironwood tree, which only grows in the southwest Sonoran Desert, detailed the release, noting it grows to heights of 45 feet and persists in the desert heat for as long as 1,000 years. Many species of Sonoran wildlife depend on it for survival.
Andrews thanked chapter members who helped plan the ceremony including Stephanie Troth, Honorary Chapter / State Regent, and Yvonne Henricks, Betty Heenan and Margot Carlson Delogne.
