Chaparral High School Class of 2021 graduate Larsen Jett Emig, of Scottsdale, has been appointed to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy as a member of the Class of 2025.

Nominated by Congressman David Schweikert, according to a press release, he was selected out of about 2,000 qualified applicants to be amongst approximately 280 appointees to attend the academy at Kings Point New York, which is one of the five U.S. military service academies.

The academy’s intensive four-year regimental and academic curriculum includes three trimesters at sea on U.S. flag merchant vessels and U.S. Navy ships, an internship, which leads to a bachelor of science degree, a U.S. Merchant Marine Officer’s license and an officer’s commission in the U.S. Navy Reserve upon completion.

Larsen, who the release said, already demonstrates he is “living up to the academy’s motto: Acta non Verba — Deeds, not Words,” reports to the academy on July 9 for indoctrination. He is a Cadet 1st Lieutenant with the Civil Air Patrol, Scottsdale Composite Squadron 314, an auxiliary division of the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Chaparral High School baseball program for four years.
