Assistance League of Phoenix gets $250K matching grant from BHHS Legacy Foundation and Legacy Connection

The Assistance League of Phoenix recently announced BHHS Legacy Foundation has donated a $250,000 matching grant for Operation School Bell.

The Operation School Bell program is funded from generous financial support from grantors like BHHS Legacy Foundation and Legacy Connection, an affiliate of the foundation, according to a press release detailing Arizona charitable organizations with philanthropic missions to enhance the quality of life and health of those served.

The Delivering Dreams Bus is the mobile unit of Operation School Bell, the signature program of Assistance League of Phoenix, and typically serves over 8,500 students each school year through the bus and the satellite dressing center located in Sunnyslope, the release said.

“Assistance League of Phoenix has been near and dear to our hearts for many years,” said Jerry Wissink, chief executive officer of BHHS Legacy Foundation, in a prepared statement.

“They are providing basic necessities and much needed clothing and shoes to low-income students throughout the Valley. We are proud to be their partner and hope the community supports our matching grant!”

This year, due to COVID-19, Assistance League of Phoenix will only offer the bus with safety measures in place to ensure they are in compliance with CDC recommended guidelines. Assistance League of Phoenix usually partners with more than 90 Title I schools throughout the year.

Every school can select up to 100 children who qualify for the program such as students on the free or reduced lunch program. Once on board the Delivering Dream Bus, students work with volunteers to select correct sizes, noted the release.

Each student receives a bundle of items valued between $200-$250 and includes; two bottoms, three tops, six pair of socks, six underwear, a sweatshirt, belt, a pair of shoes, washable face mask, new book, and a personalized health kit full of hygiene items.

“BHHS Legacy Foundation and Legacy Connection have been a long-standing partner of ours and we are so grateful for their tremendous support,” said Aimee Runyon, CEO of Assistance League of Phoenix, in a prepared statement.

“This year has been challenging for all nonprofits. We have been serving families in non-traditional ways because we know thousands of Arizona families are struggling and in desperate need of new shoes and clothing. The support of organizations like BHHS Legacy Foundation and Legacy Connection is helping make that possible.”
