Ability360 to host Duel in the Desert competition

Top athletes and teams will converge on the Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center for three days of competition in wheelchair rugby, wheelchair basketball, power soccer and stand-up amputee basketball at the 7th annual Duel in the Desert.

Adult and youth teams will compete in round robin play beginning at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25. Games on Friday are scheduled through the early evening. Play picks up again Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

There is no admission charge to the event at Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center, 5031 E. Washington St. in Phoenix. There is a light rail station in front of the Ability360 complex.

The Ability360 Power Soccer program will field two teams on the court. The Ability360 varsity squad will compete in youth wheelchair basketball and the Phoenix Wheelchair Suns will have two teams playing in the adult wheelchair basketball bracket, according to a press release.

A 5-on-5 standup amputee basketball game is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Other teams in the field include High Rollers Wheelchair Rugby from Las Vegas; Northridge Knights Wheelchair Rugby from Lake View Terrace, California; University of Arizona Wheelchair Rugby; PossAbilities Rolling Wheelchair Basketball from Loma Linda, California; Ranchos Halos Varsity Wheelchair Basketball from Downey, Califonia and San Diego Hammer Varsity Wheelchair Basketball.
