AAWL hosts ‘Virtual Baby Shower’ for kitten season

Posted

The Arizona Animal Welfare League had a virtual baby shower at the end of March for its kittens and puppies to gather items that were in low supply at stores nationwide.

As warmer weather means the beginning of “kitten season,” the state’s largest and oldest no-kill animal shelter expects 1,300 baby felines to enter its care this year, according to a press release.

To prepare, the shelter is holding a virtual baby shower to get much-needed donations for its young cats and dogs as AAWL estimates it will care for more than 400 puppies this year alone, especially when needed items are in low supply at stores nationwide.

The community’s response was incredible, the release said, noting that the shelter will possibly be able to help every kitten and puppy entering into its foster care program this year, along with some of the other animals at the shelter’s 32 rural rescue partners statewide.

Donations from the community filled the shelter’s lobby multiple times, described the release, adding that more boxes continue to arrive daily since launching the virtual baby shower.

The shelter’s primary needs are wet or dry kitten and puppy food, puppy pads, small kitty litter trays, and heating pads for newborn kittens and puppies, noted the release.

If people want to donate to the virtual baby shower go to: AAWL.org/BabyShower.

Donors can also order via a wish list on Amazon or deliver the items directly to the shelter at 25 N. 40th St. between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. However, the shelter is currently closed to the public due to COVID-19 precautions.
