Subscriptions available for classical music series at Mesa Arts Center

Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main St., recently announced its Classical Music Inside Out 2022-23 season.

Classical Music Inside Out celebrates 10 years under the artistic direction of Grammy Award-winning Cellist Zuill Bailey.

“We are beyond thrilled to bring Classical Music Inside Out back for another season that is truly like no other. We have something for everyone from local, national and international artists who each bring a unique talent to the stage. We take great pride in our continued mission of making music accessible to everyone in our region. Every CMIO artist spends the week in residences in our schools and community. We look forward to seeing you and celebrating our 10th Anniversary season together,” Bailey, artistic director of Classical Music Inside Out, said in the release.

Events include:

  • Adam Golka, piano; 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6: Polish American pianist Golka is a concerto soloist. He has appeared with dozens of orchestras and symphonies around the world. Currently, he is touring with a recital featuring Beethoven’s Les Adieux, Liszt’s Sonata, Grazyna Bacewicz’s Piano Sonata No. 2, as well as etudes by Nicolai Kapustin and his own Relevant Etude (2021).
  • Sphinx Competition winners Kebra-Seyoun Charles, double bass, and Jonathan Okseniuk, violin; 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10: The Sphinx Competition is a national competition offering young Black and Latinx classical string players a chance to compete under the guidance of a renowned panel of judges and to perform with and receive mentorship from established professional musicians. For 2022, Charles is the senior division winner and Okseniuk is the junior division winner.
  • Awadagin Pratt and Maxwell Quartet; 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023: Pianist Pratt is acclaimed for his musical insight and intensely involving performances in recital and with symphony orchestras. The Maxwell Quartet consists of four great friends who grew up playing classical and folk music together in youth orchestras. Maxwell Quartet and Awadagin will play together on a piece entitled “Clouds,” a piano quintet by the Jamaican-British composer Eleanor Alberga, who is a prominent Black female composer.
  • Zuill Bailey | Celebrating the Bach Cello Suites; 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2023: Bailey, widely considered one of the premiere cellists in the world, is a distinguished soloist, recitalist, artistic director and teacher. In 2021, Zuill released The Complete Bach Cello Suites which was recorded live at Mesa Arts Center and will Celebrate the Bach Cello Suites during his performance at Mesa Arts Center.
  • Eroica Trio; 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2023: Eroica Trio is Erika Nickrenz (piano), Sara Parkins (violin) and Sara Sant’Ambrogio (cello). The Grammy-nominated Eroica Trio enraptures audiences with irresistible enthusiasm and sensual elegance. Their performance will include a broad range of repertoire spanning hundreds of years as well as the quintessential “Eroica” programs with an eclectic mix of exclusive, original arrangements and pieces composed for them.

Mesa Arts Center’s Classical Music Inside Out series aims to broaden access to and appreciation for classical music with all ages through a diverse range of community engagements in schools, community groups, hospitals and more to Mesa and throughout the Valley, the release states.
