SRP to host online event about transmission project

Salt River Project will host a live, online open house for the public to learn more about the High-Tech Interconnect Project, a proposed transmission project that is required to provide reliable power to the recently announced expansion of Intel’s Chandler campus.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, SRP has held several live, online open houses virtually, according to a release.

The next live, online open house will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23, and will include an informational presentation and responses to questions received via email prior to the event. SRP will also set aside time to respond to questions during the open house.

All attendees need to pre-register for the live, online event.

The $20 billion Intel expansion is reported to be a major economic boost for Chandler, the region and the state, providing thousands of new high-paying jobs.

The Intel expansion will require SRP to build a new 230-kV substation on Intel’s campus, as well as new 230kV transmission lines connecting the campus to two existing substations.

The public process will culminate with a hearing before the Arizona Power Plant and Transmission Line Siting Committee. A final decision on whether to grant a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility for the project will be decided at an open meeting of the Arizona Corporation Commission.

SRP has also posted a virtual open house to the project webpage that can be viewed on demand, 24 hours a day at srpnet.com/hip.

To register for the open house, go to srpnet.com/hip for details and instructions or call 855-584-1484.
