New Walmart initiative offers classes in Mesa

Posted

Walmart has a network of 200 training academies nationwide, including one in the Walmart Supercenter, 857 N. Dobson Road in Mesa. There's also one in Gilbert at 5290 S. Power Road.

Free — virtual for now — classes are being offered to the public from Walmart Community Academy on subjects from personal finance to career advancement to how to purchase a car or home. Enrollment is open at communityclasses.wal-mart.com and is free, according to a release.

The Walmart Community Academy has dedicated training staff to train Walmart associates on retail skills and lay a path to their career growth. The long-term goal was to use the academies to also help  communities, and this marks the first step, the release states.

Courses are grouped into one of five overall themes — community, personal finance, home, career progression and technology — and offerings are to be expanded throughout the year, according to a blog by Andy Trainor, vice president of learning, at corporate.walmart.com/newsroom/2021/06/08/giving-back-with-community-academy.
