Gilbert-based Inspire Theatre Company is performing “Into the Woods,” Steven Sondheim’s musical twist on the Brothers Grimm fairy tales, Oct. 20-29 in Mesa.
The story features Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack of beanstalk fame through a twisting a dark wood on a journey of discovery and magic.
The story follows a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.
Inspire Theatre Company has worked closely with local performing arts studio Inspire Entertainment, 4469 E. Baseline Road, Gilbert, to build a cast of performers.
The production runs Oct. 20-22 and 27-29 at East Valley High School, 7420 E Main St. in Mesa. Performances will take place each night at 7:30 p.m. with Saturday matinees at 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at inspiretheatre.org.
