Monten: We need all mail-in voting for all Arizonans

Posted

The state GOP wants to change the way we vote. They want to do away with all mail-in ballots. One of their arguments is the Arizona constitution requires ballots be cast in person on election day.

That document was written as a guide. Think about it. It was written before antibiotics and computers. But it was written so it could be changed with the onset of time.

To me, a much better change, would be to all mail-in ballots along with new wording that would make our voting system legal. The system is already in place with most voters choosing to use it. If mail in ballots were done away with, some people would have a long way to drive or an expense to get there.

Across the U.S.A. there have been crazies who harass or threaten polling workers. If we had more polling places, how are you going to get people to man them under the above conditions? Washington State went to all mail in voting in 2006. If you want to check it out, go to their website www.sos.WA.Gov/elections.

Having a statewide database allows them an efficient way to screen for duplicate registrations and deceased voters. We have people who are deployed, and this would allow them an easy and secure way to cast their ballot.

Let’s make our change to all mail-in voting.
