Litchfield Park sees spike of nearly 130 COVID cases in one week

School districts also report increasing COVID numbers

The Arizona Department of Health Services reported 129 new COVID cases in Litchfield Park this week, bringing the total number of cases to 4,446.  

Last week, 101 new cases were reported in Litchfield Park area code 85340 between, July 30 and Aug. 6, according to ADHS data.

The ZIP code includes the city of Litchfield Park and unincorporated Maricopa County. The state does not separate cases by incorporated and unincorporated areas.

Over 90% of cases were mapped to the address of the patient's residence.

Vaccinations

Each week, the county updates the number of residents vaccinated, and the percentage of residents vaccinated by ZIP code at maricopa.gov/5671/Public-Vaccine-Data.

In Litchfield Park, about 63.7% of the eligible population have received their first dose and 57.1% have received their second or final dose.

Vaccination rates have increased slightly in Litchfield Park over the past week.

According ADHS, 4,095,514 vaccine doses had been administered to Maricopa County residents as of Aug. 10.

State and county-wide numbers

While Arizona COVID-19 death rates have hovered around 2% since late May, the rate of positive tests have increased dramatically in the past month, from 6.71% on July 11, to 12.99% on Aug. 11, according to Mayo Clinic data.

Maricopa County has seen 604,387 total cases since the start of the pandemic, an increase of 14,536 cases since last Friday. 

Percent positivity has dropped slightly to 15% on Aug. 13. That is down from 16% positivity reported on Aug. 6, but still considered “high transmission” by county health officials.

Data collected by the county as of Aug. 13 show 13,837.2 positive cases per 100,000.

School District COVID-19 numbers

There are 76 reported COVID cases at the Agua Fria Union High School District, as of Friday Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m.

There are 56 reported cases are of students, and 20 reported cases of staff members.

  • Canyon View: 16 total cases
  • Verrado: 15 total cases
  • Millennium: 12 total cases
  • Agua Fria: 9 total cases
  • Department site: 2 total cases

Two additional reported COVID cases are not yet attributed to any school or district site.

Litchfield Park Elementary School District has not updated their COVID data since Friday, Aug. 6, when the district reported 22 positive cases of COVID and 114 exposures to COVID. This page will be updated when COVID-19 data is reported. Access the full dashboard here.
