Aug. 6 election update: Litchfield Park City Council hopefuls await word on runoff

Residents who want to follow results of races throughout the county can visit results.maricopa.vote. The Elections Department will post updates at 5 p.m. daily until all votes are tallied.
With 30,000 ballots still to process and verify Thursday evening, Aug. 6, Litchfield Park City Council hopefuls remained in limbo as they waited to hear whether there will be a runoff in November.
As of 5:16 p.m., 2,112 Litchfield Park ballots had been counted and incumbents Ann Donahue (1,572 votes or 32%), Ron Clair (1,317 votes or 26%) and John Romack (1,293 votes or 26%) remained well ahead of challenger Kerry Murphy Giangobbe (797 votes or 16%).
To be elected outright without facing a runoff, a candidate must receive a majority of all of the legal votes cast — calculated through a mathematical formula, City Clerk Terri Roth said Wednesday.
The Maricopa County Elections Department said in a tweet Thursday evening that 830,542 ballots had been counted.
Election results will remain unofficial until canvassed Friday, Aug. 14 by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.
Litchfield Park’s city charter calls for a seven-member council consisting of six councilmembers elected at large for staggered, four-year terms, and a mayor elected separately to a four-year term.
There are no term limits, and Litchfield Park municipal elections are non-partisan.
About the 2020 candidates
Ms. Donahue, 61, is a 27-year resident of Litchfield Park first elected to the council in 2016. She is a retired Litchfield Elementary School District public information officer and worked in marketing, sales management and as a health educator during her career. She is married to John Donahue and the couple have three adult children, Molly, Jack and Clare.
Mr. Clair, 53, is a seven-year resident of Litchfield Park appointed to the council in 2019 to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of longtime Councilman Peter Mahoney. He is regional operations manager for All my Sons Moving and Storage. Mr. Clair and his wife, Anne, have one son, Austin.
Mr. Romack, 75, is a 44-year resident of Litchfield Park who has served on the council for 12 years. He is a commercial and residential general contractor. He is married to Gay Romack and the couple have an adult daughter, Stacy.
Ms. Giangobbe, 55, is a 42-year resident of Litchfield Park seeking her first term on the council. She is owner and surgery practice manager of Veincare of Arizona. She is married to Dr. Mitchell Giangobbe, MD and the couple have an adult daughter, Kaitlin, and 13-year-old son, Ryan.
