Independence Day revelers looking to create their own fireworks shows over the holiday weekend are being asked by the city of Litchfield Park to stick only to those permissible in city limits.

Consumer ground-only “novelty” fireworks such such as snappers, snap caps, party poppers, glow worms. snakes, toy smoke devices, sparklers and certain toys are allowed on private property, but are not permitted for use on city streets or in public parks, according to Section 10-1-15 of Litchfield Park’s City Code.

Bottle rockets or any fireworks launched into the air are not permitted for use anywhere in the city.

Other highlights from the code include:

  • Permissible consumer fireworks may be used, discharged or ignited on private property from June 24 to July 6 and from Dec. 24 to Jan. 3 of each year on private property and only with the consent of the owner or other person in control of the private property. The consenting owner, consenting person in control and the user of the permissible consumer fireworks shall be responsible for any injuries or damages caused by such use.
  • No person who is under 16 years of age may use, discharge or ignite permissible consumer fireworks without direct supervision of a person who is 18 years of age or older.

The full code may be found at the city’s website, litchfield-park.org.
