A few important dates for the upcoming school semester

It’s back-to-school week for Southwest Valley districts returning from winter break.

High schoolers in the Agua Fria Union High School District returned to the classroom Monday, after a two-week break that started Dec. 20.

Agua Fria has five traditional campuses as well as two alternative academies. The district serves between 8,000 and 9,000 students in Avondale, Buckeye, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Waddell and part of Glendale.

Agua Fria campuses will be closed Jan. 17 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Feb. 21 for President’s Day. Spring break is scheduled March 7-11, and students will have an additional day off on April 15.

School’s out for summer following student’s final day of classes May 19. Freshman will return Aug. 8 for the first day of the 2022-23 school year. All other grades should report to campus Aug. 9.

Students at the Litchfield Elementary School District also returned to school Monday. The district serves about 11,500 students from preschool through eighth grade and feeds into the Agua Fria high school district.

Litchfield has 16 schools, plus a digital learning academy, serving Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Avondale and Buckeye.

Classes will be canceled Jan. 14 and Feb. 18 for teacher-in-service days and on Jan. 17 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day as well as Feb 21 for President’s Day.

Students will be dismissed early on Jan. 28, March 4, March 25, April 15, April 29 and May 6 for teacher training and parent-teacher conferences.

May 19 marks eighth-grade promotion, and students will be released for summer break following the last day of school, May 20.

The district has not posted the 2022-2023 calendar, but students will return to classes following summer break sometime in August 2022.
