The spread of COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, may have canceled events that bring Goodyear and Southwest Valley residents together at venues around the region, but it can’t stop the city from bringing events to residents through creative use of technology.

“During this unprecedented time, the city of Goodyear is finding new ways to connect residents to arts and culture,” city spokeswoman Corinne Holliday wrote in a release. “With the cancellation of city events and CDC guidelines encouraging Americans to stay home, Goodyear is developing virtual opportunities for residents to feel connected, enjoy the arts, and provide an outlet from these uncertain times.”

To that end, the city has partnered with Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock Teen Centers to share live-streaming concerts on its social media channels starting Monday, March 23.

Each show will begin at 1 p.m. on facebook.com/acsolidrock.

Monday, singer-songwriter Phoebe Marlowe will perform original songs. The lineup for the rest of the week includes:

  • March 24: Rylee Paige, musician, model and actress.
  • March 25: Janae Dunn, singer-songwriter and actress.
  • March 26: Sunkissed, indie-rockers and sisters, Kayli, Kari and Kassi Sundin.
  • March 27: Summer band.

“Art has a way of generating optimism and happiness,” Goodyear Arts and Culture Administrator Guylene Ozlanski said in the release. “Especially music, it touches people emotionally and during this difficult time, we hope families will enjoy this new way to connect with the outside world and experience arts at home.”

Other virtual arts and culture opportunities will be announced on the city’s social media channels, including online dance, bass and guitar lessons from local artists.
