Going to court? You’ll need a face mask in Goodyear

Posted

Beginning Monday, June 1, everyone who enters the Goodyear Municipal Court building will need to wear a protective face covering.

Face coverings will not be provided, so those entering the building at 14455 W Van Buren St Suite B-101 must bring their own, or they may be turned away, a city release stated. Those who are denied entry may need to appear remotely at a court proceeding or make other arrangements.

“Arizona Courts have not closed,” stated Mayra Galindo, Goodyear Municipal Court presiding judge. “To promote health and safety, courts require you to take precautions when entering the facility, which includes wearing a mask.”

In addition to requiring face coverings, all court visitors will be required to follow COVID-19 Arizona health screening protocols for the public, which includes body temperature screening per Arizona Supreme Court Administrative Office of the Courts Administrative Directive.

“As a matter of public safety, particularly for those with fragile medical conditions, Arizona’s courts are authorized to prohibit entry to courthouses by those who do not meet the screening requirements,” the release stated. “For those unable to attend a public court proceeding due to the new health guidelines, alternative options for attending court appearances will be provided.”

Ms. Galindo is authorized by the Arizona Supreme Court to take the steps needed locally, and consistent with health department guidelines, to ensure access to justice while reducing exposure to the spread of COVID-19, which is detailed in Goodyear Municipal Court Administrative Order 2020-07.
