Packages From Home sends care packages

Packages from Home is partnering with Crown Royal’s Purple Bag Project and country music star Kane Brown to give back to America’s military and veterans.

Packages From Home is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit at 5643 N. 52nd Ave. in Glendale that serves active-duty U.S. military members stationed or deployed overseas (to include military working dogs and military K9 teams) as well as homeless, transitioning and at-risk veterans by providing them with requested food, hygiene and entertainment items.

One year after its original release, Kane Brown has remixed his single “Homesick” under the title “Homesick (Veterans Version).” For every stream of the remixed song, Crown Royal will pack a purple bag with items to send to military members overseas and to veterans across the United States.

“Homesick (Veterans Version)” features three veterans: Generald Wilson, retired Navy 1st class petty officer; J.W. Cortés, retired Marine Corps gunnery sergeant; and Sal Gonzales, retired Marine Corps lance corporal. The song is streamable on all major platforms.

Crown Royal’s commitment to packing 1 million bags by the end of 2020 will further advance Packages From Home’s mission, which began in 2004 when founder Kathleen Lewis began sending care packages to her son, Christian Lewis, when he enlisted after watching the World Trade Center fall on 9/11.

Ms. Lewis began sending packages to Christain, but unfortunately he was the only one in his unit receiving care packages. Ms. Lewis rallied her friends to send packages to his entire squad, and Packages from Home was born.

In 2019, Packages From Home sent more than 10,000 care packages and impacted more than 20,000 active-duty servicemembers. Additionally, the organization provided more than 45,000 pounds of food and 6,000 pounds of hygiene items impacting more than 17,000 veterans.
