City receives finance reporting awards

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has recognized the city of Litchfield Park and Finance Director Paige Peterson for excellence in financial reporting.

City Manager Bill Stephens announced in a release Monday, Sept. 21, that Litchfield Park received a GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report.

The certificate is the highest recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by Litchfield Park and its staff, Mr. Stephens stated.

Ms. Peterson, who was primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR, received a Financial Reporting Achievement award for her efforts.

“I and the entire City Council appreciate the professionalism demonstrated by Ms. Peterson and our accounting staff. They manage our finances efficiently, and consistently provide the council with clear and concise reporting,” Mayor Thomas L. Schoaf said in a prepared statement.

The CAFR was judged by a panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR, Mr. Stephens stated.
