Where’s good for shoreline bass fishing around here?

Locals share advice with Valley newcomer, would-be angler

Hey guys! I have just recently moved here from Montana and am looking for some tips and tricks for bass fishing here. I’ve been fishing the local ponds (I live in north Phoenix) but haven’t had much luck. What are the bass usually biting on this time of year? I also want to go out to Lake Pleasant; what are some tips you’d recommend for shore fishing there? And any areas or spots you’d recommend? Pictures are for attention. Thanks! — Serena Mohr

Pleasant

Shore fishing Lake Pleasant, go during the weekdays. Weekends are crazy and dangerous there. Go near the Castle Creek boat ramp and parking lot. Number of good shoreline areas there. Kim Crowley

Go east

Shore fishing is the toughest of all, but Bartlett is definitely your best bet. I use a kayak and that helps get me away from the shore and it makes a big difference, but I still shore fish because I enjoy the challenge. Normally Roosevelt is a great shore fishing lake, but that lake seems to be fishing tough right now. This time of the year I like throwing top-water from shore.Christina Boggs

Bass, too

From shore at Pleasant, I would mainly recommend safe and supportive shoes ... lol. Yes I said it. It’s rocky. Scorpion Bay might be a good spot to walk. Swim baits or Ned rigs, even bladed jigs might be fruitful. I’d say spoons but not from the bank. If you have a kayak, or from boat, large spoons. You can’t go wrong with a grub and crappie jig if you want to catch more than just crappie, for bass, too.Tara White

Better choices

Pleasant is very difficult for shore fishing. Bartlett is better ... Ironically I wonder if Horseshoe is the best shore fishing lake in the Phoenix area right now, assuming your vehicle can make the trip.Andrew Brewer
