Stretches of Interstate 17 between Deer Valley and Jomax Road in north Phoenix will be closed at times this weekend (Sept. 11-13) for pavement improvement work, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Drivers should plan for heavy traffic and delays while considering alternate routes while the following I-17 closures are in place:
Drivers also should consider scheduling their I-17 travel earlier in the morning or later at night while the closures are in place.
Crews will remove the top layer of the older I-17 pavement to prepare for resurfacing the freeway as part of the project to reconstruct the interchanges at Pinnacle Peak and Happy Valley roads. The $50 million project, which also is widening I-17 between the two interchanges, is scheduled for completion this fall.
