Volunteers of Peoria-based Hart Pantry packed 350 backpacks for at-risk high school students in their programs at Peoria, Dysart and Glendale school districts.
A large portion of the packs were donated to the Peoria Fireman Charities event to be held Aug. 26.
Executive Director Ruth Langford said none of this could be possible with out the help of their donors from ELKS Lodge 2559, The SouL group from Corte Belle, Epic Home Realty, The Laughton Team, Bombas Socks, congregations at area churches, Son Glow Ministries, and the many individuals in the community who care about kids.
Hart Pantry works with at-risk and homeless teens in the West Valley who wish to stay in school to complete their education.
Weekend and evening food, toiletries, basic clothing and other support are provided during the year. The back to school drive is always a major event and this year it was the most rewarding ever, Langford said.
"The support was overwhelming and we couldn’t do it without our donors; the volunteers who work this event were so very humbled by the constant donations that came to our door," she said.
