Spotlight Youth Theatre, at 10620 N. 43rd Ave., Glendale, will stage a musical next month.

“Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical JV” opens its run with a 7 p.m. show Friday, June 18. Shows continue through June 27.

Shows take place 7 p.m. Saturday, June 19; 2 p.m. Sunday, June 20; 7 p.m. Saturday, June 26; and 2 p.m. Sunday, June 27.

The production is a family musical about diversity and acceptance.

“’Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical’ follows 8-year-old Lily Polkadot, who just moved to the ‘Squares Only’ small town of Rockaway,” a theatre news release states. “As the first Polkadot in an all Square school, Lily faces an almost impossible task of gaining acceptance from her peers. From daily bullying to segregated drinking fountains, Lily’s quest seems hopeless until she meets Sky, a shy Square boy whose curiosity for her unique polka-dot skin blooms into an unexpected pal-ship.”
