Joe Baker Trio to bring swinging ‘hot jazz’ to Glendale's Starlite Lounge

Posted

The Joe Baker Trio will perform 8 p.m. Thursday, March 5 at Starlite Lounge, 4346 W. Olive Ave., Glendale.

The combo, which also features Mark Flynn on drums and Jamie Waldron on bass, brings an evening of 1920s-40s hot jazz, western swing, and rhythm and blues.

Mr. Baker, on guitar and vocals, recently returned to Arizona after 20 years of performing in Portland, Oregon. Now based in Phoenix, he can be found all over the Southwest and beyond playing 78-rpm era jazz, blues, ballads and country and western.

“From performing early on while growing up in Oak Creek Canyon and through two decades playing the club circuit of Portland, Joe Baker has absorbed many styles of early American music, and has created his own sound where 78rpm-era country, blues and jazz all become intertwined,” his Facebook page states. “Now back in Arizona and based in Phoenix, his solo acoustic shows combine all his various influences while his electric trio leans heavily on punked-out traditional jazz and rhythm and blues classics.”

There is no cover charge for the 21-and-over show.
