Residents are invited to attend the annual Veterans Day ceremony at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, either in person at the Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown St., or by livestream on the Glendale Chamber of Commerce Facebook page or city of Glendale Facebook page .

Attendees will include Mayor Jerry Weiers, active-duty military members, and elected officials. Local veteran organizations are invited to attend. The flag raising will be performed by The Marine Corps League’s Old Breed Detachment No. 767.

“I am pleased we are again able to honor our veterans and thank them for their service,” Mayor Weiers stated in a news release. “It’s important to recognize their sacrifices.”

The ceremony will be held outside on the lawn of the library, adjacent to the Veterans Memorial, and will include a flag raising of the U.S., Arizona state, and POW/MIA flags.

Attendees are asked to bring their unserviceable U.S. flags to the event so they can be properly retired. Veterans IV Veterans will be collecting the flags, then retiring them later.

For those unable to stay for the ceremony or prefer to social distance, flags may be dropped off between 7:30 and 9 a.m. on the north side of the library in the book drop drive thru.

This event is free and open to the public. Please note that the Glendale Main Library itself will be closed for the holiday.
