In November 1960, 6-year-old Ruby Bridges became the first Black student to attend an all-white elementary school in Louisiana, advancing the civil rights movement.
Bridges’ bravery inspired AAA School Safety Patrollers in California to create Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day in 2018. Last year, more than 90,000 students walked in Bridges’ honor. This year, more than 1,100 schools and 300,000 students from across the country will participate in events on Monday, Nov. 14.
This includes an event at Brighton Charter School in Glendale.
