A man is under arrest on terrorism charges after allegedly threatening to commit a school shooting in Glendale.

Glendale police arrested Tony Q Tran, 30, after he allegedly threatened to commit a school shooting at a local university near 59th Avenue and Utopia.

In the early morning hours of Aug. 16, Glendale police received a call with information that a student of a local university was planning on going to the school to commit a shooting. Police immediately notified school officials and conducted intensive patrol around the school as further information was developed.

The person who reported the threat allegedly received the information through a social media message from Tran. Police say that Tran stated on the video message he was planning to commit the shooting at 10 a.m. at the university. Tran had reportedly recently been suspended from the school and was not allowed on campus, and he allegedly had a meeting planned with two of the school administrators at 10 a.m. that morning.

Glendale detectives intercepted Tran in Tempe around 9 a.m. as he was driving in the direction of the school. Tran was located at a gas station and taken into custody. Detectives allegedly located a loaded handgun in his vehicle.

Tran was arrested and charged with one count of terrorism, one count of terroristic threats, and one count of interfering with an educational institution.
