The city of Glendale at the Council meeting Tuesday will consider moving forward on constructing two new wells.

The Water Services Department is recommending adding wells near Abrazo Arrowhead Hospital, 18701 N. 67th Ave., and Sierra Verde Park, 21000 Arrowhead Loop to, according to the city’s public meeting agenda, “help ensure long term water supply resiliency, redundancy and sustainability to the city’s residents and businesses.”

The cost will be $8,158,027.

The meeting takes place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14 inside Council Chambers, 5850 W. Glendale Ave.

The city is looking to contract with MGC Contractors Inc., of Phoenix, for the agreement.

Currently the city’s potable water facilities include three surface treatment plants, one groundwater treatment plant, six active city wells, eight Salt River Project (SRP) wells, and seven water storage reservoirs.

An engineering evaluation for additional groundwater supply completed in June 2019 included the assessment of new or replacement well sites. The new project would be constructed in two phases over multiple years.

The work would cover pre-construction services, drilling and installation of new wells, and capping and securing new wells.

In 2020, the city entered into a Professional Services Agreement with Hazen and Sawyer for Groundwater Well Program Management Services to address the future work.

Money is available in the Water Services Department FY2022-23 Capital Improvement Plans for project Groundwater Wells CIPWA19022.
