Low-cost vascular risk assessment screenings will take place at Abrazo Arrowhead Campus in Glendale this month.
Assessment results may indicate an individual’s risk for heart attacks, stroke or peripheral artery disease. The screenings take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 on the Glendale campus at 18701 N. 67th Ave.
Abrazo’s AngioScreen checks blood flow in carotid and ankle arteries, and includes a simple EKG for heart rhythm, blood pressure check and overall fitness assessment. The screening takes only about 10 minutes and its $59 cost includes a consultation with a clinician.
Participants get color ultrasound photos of their carotid arteries and exam results, which they are encouraged to share with their personal physician for follow up.
Previous Abrazo AngioScreen events across the Valley have identified potential artery blockages and atrial fibrillation in several participants, according to Abrazo Health Outreach Manager Cindy Roberts, RN.
“The AngioScreen information can be used by participants to share with their doctor and should not replace regular examinations and consultations with their personal physician,” Roberts shared in a statement.
Heart attacks affect more than 805,000 men and women annually in the U.S., and every year, more than 795,000 people in the U.S. have a stroke, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“We’ve had a very positive response to previous events and expect our Sept. 24 screening event to fill quickly,” Abrazo Arrowhead Campus CEO Stephen Garner stated.
