Glendale Community College, 6000 W. Olive Ave., has appointed Monica Castañeda as the Vice President of Student Affairs.

In this senior leadership position Ms. Castañeda will support student success, persistence and completion while providing oversight to student support and enrollment services, admissions and records, veterans services, academic advisement, financial aid, global education services, disability resource services, student code of conduct, Title IX, athletics, early outreach, and student life and leadership.

Ms. Castañeda has been serving in an interim capacity in this role since July 1, 2018.

Previous to her position as interim Vice President of Student Affairs, she served as the GCC Dean of Student Life and prior to that the GCC Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs.

“Monica is excellent at what she does and she brings a deep passion for the success of students,” Glendale Community College president stated Dr. Teresa Leyba-Ruiz stated. “Her vast energy motivates all of those around her as she tirelessly works towards the betterment of GCC, her co-workers and our students. She brings a wealth of knowledge of student affairs and experience navigating the inner workings of GCC and the Maricopa Community Colleges District. I am positive that she will continue to support her colleagues here on campus and our sister schools in the district while also building strong relationships with our external partners.”

Ms. Castañeda assumes her permanent role effective Thursday, Jan. 2. The announcement comes after a nearly six-month, nationwide candidate search.
