Personal protective equipment comes from nursing program

The Glendale Community College nursing program recently donated a supply of critical personal protective equipment to the HonorHealth Deer Valley Pediatric Emergency Room, 19829 N. 27th Ave., in Phoenix.

The nursing instructor, Belinda Gardner, from the Glendale campus at 6000 W. Olive Ave., delivered the supplies Monday, March 24.

The GCC nursing department donation included many items that are currently in short supply nationwide. The following PPE supplies were in the donation delivery.

- 7 boxes face masks - 50/box

- 10 cases non-sterile gloves - 10 boxes/case

- 6 cases isolation gowns - 50/case

- 3 cases alcohol wipes - 20 boxes per case/200 wipes per box

- 4 boxes bouffant hats - 100/box

- 4 boxes shoe covers - 50/box

- 6 cases thermometer probes 100/case

“We inventoried our supply room to determine what was available for donation to one of our healthcare partners in this time of need,” Ms. Gardner stated in a news release. “After consulting with department and college leadership we selected Mendy’s Place, the Pediatrics Emergency Room at HonorHealth. The RN in charge was teary-eyed when we delivered the supplies.”

GCC president Dr. Terry Leyba-Ruiz praised Ms. Gardner and the nursing program for their initiative.

“This truly exemplifies the community spirit at GCC and how we are all working together and supporting each other in these unprecedented times,” Dr. Leyba-Ruiz stated.
