Glendale College names new senior associate vice president

Lorelei Carvajal will provide North Campus leadership

Glendale Community College has appointed Dr. Lorelei (Lore) Carvajal as senior associate vice president.

In this senior leadership position Dr. Carvajal will support student success and community outreach while providing strategic planning and day-to-day oversight for GCC’s North Campus, 5727 W. Happy Valley Road, Glendale.

Dr. Carvajal most recently served in an interim capacity as the dean of academic affairs. Prior to that she held various roles at GCC including; interim dean of academic affairs for projects and planning, accreditation liaison officer for the higher learning commission as well as overseeing the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. She originally joined GCC as an adjunct faculty member.

“Lore is the perfect person to lead North Campus as it continues to grow and fulfill the needs of the surrounding community,” Glendale Community College president Teresa Leyba Ruiz, Ed. D., stated in a news release. “I am excited for what she will bring to the North Campus and am confident that she will foster growth by nurturing existing and creating new relationships with students, community members and businesses.”

Prior to moving to Arizona and joining GCC, Dr. Carvajal was a psychology faculty member and department chair at Triton Community College in River Grove, Illinois.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to explore new possibilities at the GCC North Campus as we redefine ourselves and continue to grow with the West Valley,” Dr. Carvajal stated. “This is an exciting time for the North Campus especially as we look at creative and fun ways to engage with the surrounding community.”

Dr. Carvajal assumed her senior association vice president role effective June 29. The appointment comes after a nearly three month, nationwide candidate search.
