Glendale cancels Hometown Christmas Parade
Food drive donations still welcome

The city of Glendale officially canceled the 2020 Hometown Christmas Parade.
The move comes after evaluating several factors including the need to ensure the health and well-being of everyone involved, the city shared in a news release.
“It was an incredibly difficult decision, but a necessary one,” Mayor Jerry Weiers stated. “I want to thank everyone for their ongoing efforts to keep our community healthy. I know COVID-19 has made many changes in our lives and I want to thank you for your continued patience.”
Though the parade has been canceled, the annual food drive is still in full swing. Volunteers will collect nonperishables and monetary donations to benefit Glendale’s Hoper for Hunger Food Bank.
Nonperishable food donations can be dropped off in food drive boxes in Glendale City Hall, 5850 W. Glendale Ave., throughout November and December. Donations also will be accepted 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at both the Sam’s Club and Walmart stores on the southeast corner of 83rd and Union Hills Avenue. Tax-detectable donations can be made online at phxmission.org/hcp.
The Hometown Christmas Parade was started by Mayor Weiers eight years ago and has grown to include more than 120 floats, 1,300 participants and more than 15,000 attendees.
