Glendale airport administrator earns national service award

Carl Newman wins Distinguished Service Award

Glendale’s Airport Administrator Carl Newman has won a national award of recognition.

Newman is a 2022 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE). His career spans more than 40 years in service to the airport industry.

Newman’s accomplishments include serving on the Southwest Chapter’s executive committee and board of directors to being AAAE’s first African-American Chair and his appointment to the National Infrastructure Advisory Council by President Barack Obama.

The Distinguished Service Award is one of AAAE’s highest levels of recognition.

Airport professionals receive this award as a reflection of outstanding accomplishments in their professional and personal lives. These men and women also contribute to other aviation organizations, serve AAAE and its regional chapters, and participate in civic and community affairs.

Newman has been with the city of Glendale for almost two years. He supervises, manages, plans and directs operations for the Glendale Municipal Airport, 6801 N. Glen Harbor Blvd.
