Deadline to file for Glendale Council, mayoral races is April 6

The deadline for Glendale residents to file to run for mayor or city Council is Monday, April 6.

The primary election is Tuesday, Aug. 4. If any council candidate earns a majority of the vote in that election, they are elected. If not, the top two vote-getters head to a run-off in the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The deadline to register to vote for the Aug. 4 primary is Monday, July 6.

Any resident 25 or older can run for mayor, but residents must live in the appropriate district to run for a city council district. This year, the Sahuaro, Cactus and Yucca Districts are up for reelection. Among other prerequisites, to be put on the ballot mayoral candidates must collect at least 1,297 petition signatures, Sahuaro candidates must collect 291, Cactus candidates 177 and Yucca candidates 160.
