Car accident closes Grand Avenue in Glendale

Boy, 7, suffers life-threatening injuries

Posted

Grand Avenue in Glendale is currently closed due to a two-vehicle collision that has left a child with life-threatening injuries.

Just after 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Glendale officers responded to the accident scene. Initial reports show a brown, four-door sedan (unknown make/model) was traveling northwest on Grand when it collided with a red sedan (unknown make/model), according to police. Witnesses tell police the driver of the brown sedan allegedly ran through a red light as the red sedan was turning left off of Grand on to 57th Drive.

A female driver and her son were inside the brown sedan. Initial reports indicate that the 7-year-old was wearing a seatbelt, but it is unclear at this time whether or not was in a booster seat.

When officers arrived they knew the child had suffered life-threatening injuries and immediately began life saving efforts, including CPR. Glendale officers worked on the child until paramedics and firefighters arrived and could take over while transporting him to a local hospital.

Glendale police say that the child’s mother was also transported with serious injuries.

The driver of the red sedan was conscious, alert and communicating with officers prior to being transported as well.

Currently Grand Avenue is closed and will remain that way for several hours while the investigation continues.
