A Veteran’s Day flag-raising ceremony sponsored by the Joe Foss American Legion Post 97 is set for 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Florence Veterans Memorial located immediately south of the Florence Community Center.
Post 97 also will take part in the Pinal County 2020 Veteran Stand Down event 7 a.m.-Noon on Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Veterans Transition Center, 5497 W. McCartney Road, Coolidge. A 50-year Congressional commemorative pinning ceremony for Vietnam Veterans takes place at 10 a.m.
COVID-19 protocosl will be in place. For the touchless event, masks, prescreening at the gate and social distancing are required,
The event is open to all local U.S. military veterans. The transition center provides veterans with VA benefits assistance, employment and training opportunities, legal services, health care screenings, substance abuse assistance, housing assistance, counseling services and more.
Post 97 meets at the San Tan Valley Veterans Center, 5764 E. Hunt Highway, Florence. Meetings are held every second Monday of each month.
