Southwest Valley McDonald’s restaurants raise $8,250 for local schools

Goodyear and Litchfield Park McDonald’s restaurants announced March 4 they raised more than $8,250 for local schools during their McTeacher’s Night Challenge in February.

Since 2009, the restaurants, owned by the Don Mellon family, have raised $127,250 for Southwest Valley schools.

Eighteen elementary and middle schools participated in the challenge, including Centerra Mirage, Dreaming Summit, Desert Thunder, Western Sky, Westar, Las Brisas Academy, Michael Anderson, Estrella Vista Stem Academy, Eliseo Felix, Wildflower, Rainbow Valley, Corte Sierra, Copper Trails, Estrella Mountain, Desert Star, Mabel Padgett, Barbara B. Robey and Lattie Coor.

Copper Trails placed first in the challenge, and received an additional $1,000 donation, for a total of $1,522.06. Rainbow Valley placed second and received an additional $500, for a total of $991.24. Centerra Mirage placed third and received an additional $250, for a total of $726.84.

As part of McTeacher’s Night, a portion of McDonald’s sales during a two-hour period benefited each school. School principals and teachers greeted customers and worked registers, while students’ families and school supporters ordered meals and tipped their teachers to help raise funds.

Darian Mellon presented checks to each of the school’s principals March 4 during a reception at the McDonald’s restaurant at 632 N. Estrella Parkway, Goodyear.

“We were delighted to bring this McTeacher’s Night Challenge to the Southwest Valley community and work with our local schools to raise money for education,” Mr. Mellon said. “Our family takes great pride as local business owners in giving back to our community.”
