Canceled: Goodyear to hold drive-in Fourth of July celebration

Updated June 29, 2020: CANCELED

Goodyear is going back to the future with its annual Independence Day celebration Saturday, July 4.

As a precautionary response to COVID-19 and the lead time necessary to plan an event of this magnitude, city of Goodyear Parks & Recreation is planning a timeless twist to the event by going back to the era of the drive-in, according to an announcement.

Beginning at 7 p.m., spectators can park in the Goodyear Ballpark parking lots (every other space, with overflow parking available nearby) with the opportunity to enjoy the show outside of their vehicles within their provided space.

Fireworks are scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. and end at 8:50 p.m., and will feature shells traveling higher in the sky to help mitigate obstructed views.

The display also will be live-streamed across social media for those choosing to enjoy the show from the comfort of their home, the announcement stated.

Entertainment/emceeing of the night will be streamed on social media channels and conceivably in partnership with a local radio station.

Minimal event staffing will be on site and will only include essential individuals from the event production team, including police and fire personnel, and the contracted parking vendor, the announcement stated.

A “know before you go” video will be shared on social media to help promote the event as well as to prepare attendees for a safe and successful experience.

Goodyear Ballpark, 1933 S. Ballpark Way, will remain closed during the event, with the exception of restrooms, the announcement stated.
