Goodyear Police Department personnel read children’s book online
Posted
The Goodyear Police Department is the latest local organization to share online storytime, posting a video of the chief and others reading the children’s book, “Our Police,” by Jack E. Levin on its Facebook and Instagram pages April 8.
“In keeping with our philosophy of community policing, which is a top priority of the Goodyear Police Department, we are committed to reaching out to our community, even during these challenging times in which social distancing is a must,” GPD Public Information Officer Lisa Berry stated in a release.
“Since schools are closed for the remainder of the school year, our goal is to reach the children, teachers and parents who are tasked with homeschooling, with a unique approach to story time,” Ms. Berry stated. “Several members of the Goodyear Police Department participated in reading a section of this book, which explains the various roles of police in the community. Readers include the police chief, traffic unit sergeant, patrol officers, K9 officer and K9 Toby, and a motor officer.
The department reached out to Simon and Schuster Publishing for guidelines on creating and sharing the video. It can be found on the department Facebook page, facebook.com/goodyearpolice and Instagram, Instagram.com/goodyearpolice.
