Southwest Valley residents who want to work close to home instead of driving east to Phoenix and beyond may be in luck.

The Goodyear Library, in partnership with ARIZONA@WORK Maricopa County and the city of Goodyear, will hold its first-ever career fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 in the library Community Room, 14455 W. Van Buren St., Suite C-101, Goodyear.

AerSale, Affinity Behavioral Healthcare, Chewy, Cornell Cookson, city of Goodyear, Gorbel and REI Co-op have already signed up to meet with job-seekers to discuss current vacancies, and more companies are expected to be added.

Librarian Rob Wilson said March 12 the Maricopa County Library District, which operates 20 libraries throughout the county including Goodyear and Litchfield Park, partnered with ARIZONA@WORK Maricopa County last year to help job-seekers who traditionally have had to commute outside the West Valley. The fellow Maricopa County agency is part of a statewide workforce development network that helps Arizonans find jobs and works with employers of all sizes and types to recruit, develop and retain employees.

“When we found out they do career fairs, we jumped at it,” Mr. Wilson said. “Especially with Goodyear booming with all these new companies coming here, anymore the jobs are right here now. Companies want to connect with Westside residents.”

In addition to the career fair, which could draw as many as 100 job-seekers, organizers decided to hold a preparatory workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 18 at the library.

Both events are free, but workshop participation is limited to the first 12 job-seekers who register online. To sign up, visit evanced.mcldaz.org, click March 18 on the calendar and scroll down to Job Employability Skills Workshop. Workshop topics will include resume evaluation, interview preparation, networking and how best to work a job fair. Participants should bring their resume for evaluation.

Job-seekers do not have to participate in the workshop to attend the career fair. Attendees should dress for success and bring their resume.

Employers interested in participating in the job fair may email Harvey.Smith@maricopa.gov for more information or to sign up.
