Estrella Mountain Community Choir will postpone spring concert

Coronavirus precautions push show to 2021

The EMCC Community Choir, from Estrella Mountain Community College, 3000 N. Dysart Road, Avondale, on April 14 made the call to postpone its scheduled May 12 spring concert due to coronavirus precautions.

“I hope we can resume in the fall and get our Winter/Christmas music ready for the concert in December,” choir director Tina Clark, who has been teaching voice and conducting church and public school choirs for more than three decades, stated in an email. “I am going to postpone this particular concert for next spring. It is a good repertoire and we all feel that we would like to perform the music next year.”

The EMCC Community Choir is now in its fourth season.

The Choir performs two concerts each year on the Avondale campus and is asked to sing in other community events around the West Valley. Previous choral experience is helpful for prospective members but not essential, and auditions are not required. Most members have sung in church or school choirs, and represent a wide range of abilities.

“Our purpose is to share the joy of singing with each other as well as with the greater community, and to broaden our knowledge of choral singing while meeting new friends along the way,” Ms. Clark stated this past December. “We sing a wide variety of music, Including sacred, secular, jazz, Broadway, gospel, modern and other genres.”
