On Friday, May 3, 2019, Elisabeth (Betty) Jean Wood Vey. (95). passed away with her daughters by her side. Betty was a loving mother to 3 daughters, Janet (Darrell) of Peoria, AZ, Nancy (Cliff) of Flagstaff, AZ, & Barbara (Larry) of Peoria, AZ. She knew she was extremely fortunate to have 7 grandchildren & 11 great-grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her first husband of 56 years, George Wood, who was her high school sweetheart. She later married a dear family friend, Charles Vey, and they enjoyed 15 years together as snowbirds living in Sun City and Santa Rosa, CA, before he preceded her in death in 2017. Betty retired after working more than 20 years as the senior estimator for the Super-Temp Corporation that manufactured specialty graphite products for aerospace applications, such as rocket nose-cones and space shuttle brakes. Working in a male-dominated industry, Betty was the only woman in company management. She was heavily involved in a project that put the first carbon brakes on the space shuttle. Betty had a wide-range of interests. She was an avid reader (the dictionary was her favorite book), gardener, and crafter. She enjoyed sewing, playing the piano and crossword puzzles that she did in ink! Betty was active in her church and spent countless hours sewing for charitable causes. She always had time for her family, making sure they came first. Betty was born an only child to Abram and Rachel Tyson in Norristown, PA, where Betty graduated high school and attended Drexel University.After marriage and two children, Betty & George moved to San Francisco in 1954 where their third daughter was born. The family later moved to Southern California where she raised her family.In 1986, Betty and George retired to Peoria, AZ, and subsequently Sun City, AZ, where they enjoyed an active retirement living close to their daughters and grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 22, 2019, at All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church, 9502 W. Hutton Dr., Sun City, AZ.
