An 18-year-old man under investigation for burglaries in Chandler was arrested Thursday morning in Phoenix after he crashed a car before police caught him trying to run away.

Jose M. Puga, 18, was charged with several counts, including burglary, theft and weapon possession, according to a release from the Chandler Police Department.

Police said after 2 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, Phoenix authorities tried to stop a dark blue Hyundai after learning it was stolen from the city of Chandler, but the driver of the Hyundai fled from police.

After a short pursuit near the area of 5th Street and Southern in Phoenix, the driver of the stolen vehicle drove down an alley and crashed into a chain link fence and an SUV, police said.

The suspect fled on foot and left a 17-year-old passenger in the Hyundai before he was taken into custody.

Phoenix police also took custody of the 17-year-old on felony charges.

During their investigation, Phoenix police said they found a stolen Glock 9MM in the driver's side floorboard. Two other guns were found, one in the juvenile’s pocket and the other on the passenger-side floorboard.

According to authorities, Puga had been arrested on Oct. 27 by Phoenix police “for being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

“In less than 24 hours, Puga was released from jail after appearing before a judge on a promise to appear in court at a later date,” the release stated.
