Two Southwest Valley residents were among 607 students who graduated recently from Park University in Missouri.

Patrick Spencer of Goodyear graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in public administration with a concentration in homeland security, and Mandie Marie Rivera of Buckeye graduated with a master’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in global business, according to a release.

The university, which serves more than 16,000 students, held a virtual commencement ceremony Dec. 12 featuring keynote speaker Anthony Melchiorri. The 1990 Park University graduate and military veteran is the host, co-creator and co-executive producer of the Travel Channel’s “Hotel Impossible” series.

Graduates originally were scheduled to participate in an in-person ceremony in Independence, but the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Founded in 1875, the nonprofit, private university operates campuses in Parkville, Independence and Kansas City, Missouri; Lenexa, Kansas; Gilbert, Arizona; Barstow and Victorville, California; and Austin and El Paso, Texas; and at 33 military installations across the country.
