WEEKEND TRAVEL

From north Phoenix to Buckeye to Gilbert, freeway work covers the Valley

Posted

The biggest obstacle for drivers this weekend again will be caused by continued construction of the Broadway Curve improvement project, but crews will be spread across the Valley working on a variety of road projects.

The major project will require a closure of a stretch of eastbound Interstate 10 between US 60 and Loop 202 in the East Valley.

A section of westbound Loop 202 also will be closed in the Gilbert area.

Here are the details and ADOT’s suggested detours through Monday, Aug. 29:

  • Interstate 10 eastbound will be closed between US 60 and Loop 202 until 10 p.m. Saturday for paving, sign installation and other work as part of the I-10 Broadway Curve project. The westbound US 60 ramp to eastbound I-10 will be closed.

The eastbound I-10 on-ramp at Broadway Road also will be closed in addition to the eastbound I-10 HOV ramp to eastbound US 60 and the westbound US 60 HOV ramp to westbound I-10.

Detour: Alternate routes include using eastbound Loop 202 or eastbound US 60 to southbound Loop 101 and westbound Loop 202 to reach eastbound I-10 beyond the closure.

Drivers in the West Valley can consider using southbound Loop 202 to reach eastbound I-10 near Chandler Boulevard (beyond the closure). Westbound Loop 202 on-ramps at Santan Village Parkway and Williams Field Road will be closed.

Note: Eastbound I-10 will be narrowed to two lanes near Warner Road from 10 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday for paving. Eastbound I-10 off- and on-ramps at Warner Road closed. Westbound I-10 will be narrowed to two lanes between Southern Avenue and Broadway Road until 4 a.m. Monday for bridge work. Westbound I-10 also will be narrowed to two lanes near Baseline Road from 10 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday for concrete work. The westbound I-10 off-ramp at Baseline Road will be closed.

  • Westbound Loop 202 will be closed between Val Vista Drive and Gilbert Road in the southeast Valley until 5 a.m. Monday for lane striping and other work on the Lindsay Road interchange project.

Detour: Consider exiting ahead of the closure and using local routes including westbound Williams Field or Germann roads.

In addition:

• Eastbound I-10 will be narrowed to one lane between Miller Road and Verrado Way in Buckeye until 5 a.m. Monday for a widening project.

• North- and southbound State Route 51 off-ramps at Northern Avenue will be  closed from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday for a city of Phoenix paving project.

Expect lane restrictions on Northern Avenue (either direction) near SR 51 at times.

Detour: Consider exiting SR 51 to westbound Glendale Avenue and using northbound 16th Street to reach Northern Avenue.
